I'm not very good at remembering dates, its was my Mum's need for a hug that reminded me. Mind you I still think of him especially when I can't find something in the garage.

I wish you and your family well in this difficult time. I hope to meet you again on the campaign trail some time in the future.

LloydUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00115834189535773460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22057922.post-25333142643932250472009-01-16T17:28:00.000+00:002009-01-16T17:28:00.000+00:00Am sorry to hear of your loss. It brought back memories of my dad who died a couple of years ago, suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 71, so I hope you don't mind my sharing a couple of things with you.

Like your dad, mine was a clever man who never had the chance to go to university because it couldn't be afforded and just wasn't done in his day. He spent the day before he died doing the things he loved - painting and drawing (what he really would have wanted to do in life was to have been a professional artist), and walking the dog to exhaustion (hers not his) in the countryside which surrounds the small council estate where I grew up and he still lived. He told my sister, who lived with him, what a lovely day he'd had, how happy he was, and went to bed. Next day she thought before she was going to leave for work "funny, dad's not up yet", went to find him, he'd died in his sleep.

Like your dad, mine was not one for medical procedures, he'd just got to the point where a few health problems were starting to bug him. The thing I found most comforting was when I was reminded that whenever as a family we went to social gatherings, at some time, always a bit earlier than anyone else he would say "hmm, I think I'd like to go now". Which is what he did in his life and I am sure was how he wanted it to end.Matthew Huntbachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18255872047710686115noreply@blogger.com
