Chris Huhne - Spinning Again!

Interesting that Chris H appears to be rather stretching his imagination by suggesting that he was first to reach 1000 supporters. This is clearly not correct, maybe he hasn't been paying enough attention to Nick C's website......... First rule of combat Chris!

Chris' website appears to be talking about 1,000 people who have either signed nomination forms or consented to their names being publicly used (i.e. this thousand will presumably exclude all those who didn't tick the consent box on the sign-up form). Nick's is talking about all supporters private and public - his website says that private supporters are currently being written to for consent to have their names used publicly.

Point taken Alix, but even if that is the case is he seriously suggesting he reached the 1000 mark before Nick?

Well seriously, Nick cannot claim equivalent figures until he confirms how many of those signing up on his website are declared supporters and not people wanting further information who havent made up their minds yet. So yes Chris can claim that 1000 (actually 1063 as of 2.45 today) people have publicly declared themselves supporters and his campaign site is the first to reach that verifiable figure, while Nicks campaign team actually dont know as of now what their equivalent figure is but are spinning at the moment.

No: everyone that the Clegg campaign are claiming, has already signed a statement to say "I support Nick Clegg". (Unlike the Huhne website there was never any option simply to register there for more info).

Why is that a Google search for "nick clegg" fails to produce his campaign website (but does produce a recommendation from The Spectator!, which I find rather off-putting)? No difficulty locating Chris Huhne, I'm glad to say.

Well thanks Robin, I'll make sure to add that to my reasons to vote Huhne, that Google don't seem to be backing Clegg...honestly

You are not comparising like with like. Clegg's figure of 1500 plus supporters cannot be verified because he is not permitted to disclose all the names. Huhne's figure can be verified because he is permitted to disclose all the names. Unverifiable figures are not very informative, I feel.
